BioNTech to shutter sites in Germany, Singapore as no buyers emerge
BNTX•BioNTech said it will close sites in Germany and Singapore after failing to find buyers. The restructuring affects up to 1,860 jobs and transfers production of its COVID-19 vaccine to partner Pfizer.
1. Sites to close
BioNTech said it would close sites in Germany and Singapore after a wide-ranging sales process failed to produce a buyer. A spokesperson said the company had agreed with the works council on socially responsible solutions and supplementary redundancy terms for affected staff.
2. Up to 1,860 jobs affected
In May, BioNTech said it would seek buyers for sites in Idar-Oberstein, Marburg, Tuebingen and Singapore, or otherwise wind them down. The restructuring, which affects up to 1,860 jobs, is part of transferring production of its COVID-19 vaccine to partner Pfizer.
