Black Hills signs agreements to supply power for planned Google data center in Wyoming
BKH•Black Hills signed agreements to serve Google’s planned Cheyenne data center through 2048, with up to 590 MW of grid-connected service planned from late 2027. The company plans to invest $1.8 billion in 564 MW of natural gas generation and expects the project to generate about $150 million in net income in 2030.
1. Power supply plans
Black Hills signed definitive agreements to serve Google’s planned data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, through 2048, effective September 30, 2026. Grid-connected service of up to 590 MW is planned to start in late 2027 and ramp to peak load in 2030.
2. Generation and returns
Black Hills plans to invest $1.8 billion in 564 MW of new natural gas generation, with returns expected to begin contributing to earnings in 2027. The company will manage about 2.1 GW of third-party contracted resources through a private microgrid, with management fees starting in late 2027. The project is expected to generate about $150 million in net income in 2030, and Black Hills targets about $2.4 billion in unlevered free cash flow through 2048.
