BorgWarner Wins Five EV/HEV Component Programs Including 800V iDMs, VTG, eXD
BorgWarner will expand its series-production BMS program to cover B- and C-segment BEVs and PHEVs from 2029, supporting up to 800-volt modular packs with fast DC charging and ASIL D safety. BorgWarner secured its first 48V eXD award in China and five EV/HEV contracts—including VTG turbochargers and 800V iDMs—through 2029.
1. BMS Program Expansion
BorgWarner's modular battery management system, in serial production since 2023, will expand in 2029 to support additional B- and C-segment BEVs, PHEVs, and light commercial vehicles. The scalable architecture handles packs up to 800 volts, monitors cell health and temperatures, enables passive cell balancing, fast DC charging communication and meets ASIL D safety requirements.
2. 48V Electric Cross Differential Program Award
The company secured its first 48V electric cross differential program with a leading Chinese OEM, integrating eXD technology into the customer's 48V electrical and electronic architecture. The system dynamically controls torque distribution between wheels, enhancing vehicle stability, traction and energy efficiency across varying driving conditions.
3. VTG Turbocharger for Hybrid Electric Platform
BorgWarner will supply its variable turbine geometry turbocharger, featuring a shot-peened compressor wheel and integrated silencer, to a major European OEM's hybrid electric vehicle platform in North America. Series production is scheduled to begin in 2028, with electrically-actuated vanes optimizing engine performance, response and noise reduction.
4. Integrated Drive and Generator Module Contracts
The company won two programs for 800V integrated drive modules and a dual-inverter generator module with a major European OEM and a North American OEM's REEV trucks and SUVs. Both contracts, set to start production in 2029, showcase compact, high-power designs with Viper power switches, induction e-machines and resilient packaging for range-extended applications.
