BP Begins Gas Production at ACG Field with 4 TCF Recoverable
BP•BP began commercial gas output at ACG field, tapping 4 TCF recoverable with 6 TCF upside in Qirmaki reservoirs. Gas and condensate route via ACG pipeline to Sangachal, supplying reservoir data to support potential multibillion-dollar development through 2049.
1. First Commercial Gas Production at ACG
BP has initiated first-ever non-associated gas production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field, delivering commercial output from a well drilled last year on the West Chirag platform into the Qirmaki Upper and Lower Sand reservoirs.
2. Reservoir Confirmations and Resource Estimates
The Qirmaki Upper Sand confirmed gas presence, while the Lower Sand encountered high-pressure gas, underpinning an estimated 4 trillion cubic feet of recoverable resources with potential upside to 6 trillion cubic feet.
3. Infrastructure Integration and Data Gathering
Produced gas and condensate flow through existing ACG platforms and the Sangachal pipeline, enabling efficient use of offshore facilities and gathering critical reservoir and flow data for future appraisal.
4. Partnership Stakes and Future Development Plans
Under a production sharing addendum running to 2049, BP holds 30.37% alongside SOCAR (35.3%), MOL, INPEX, Exxon, TPAO and ONGC, with potential for multibillion-dollar investment in full-field gas development over the next 23 years.
