Broadcom Unveils 50G PON Edge AI Gateway SoC with Wi-Fi 8 Compatibility
AVGO•Broadcom launched the BCM68850, the industry's first 50G ITU-PON home gateway SoC with integrated neural processing unit and native Wi-Fi 8 compatibility, completing its end-to-end 50G PON broadband portfolio. The SoC delivers symmetric 50G throughput, self-healing anomaly detection and post-quantum security, and is now sampling to early access customers.
1. Product Launch
Broadcom announced the BCM68850, the first standalone 50G ITU-PON home gateway SoC featuring an integrated neural processing unit and native Wi-Fi 8 compatibility, marking the completion of its end-to-end 50G PON broadband portfolio from OLT to CPE.
2. Technical Highlights
The BCM68850 includes a dedicated CPU for third-party and operator applications, an NPU for accelerated edge AI inference, symmetric 50G throughput, intelligent self-healing anomaly detection, predictive bandwidth optimization, and post-quantum cryptography for enhanced security.
3. Market Implications
By delivering near-zero jitter and deterministic low latency for high-density micro-burst traffic, the gateway soC supports applications like synchronized autonomous AI agents and multi-stream ultra-HD telepresence, enabling operators to future-proof networks and improve ARPU while reducing OpEx.
4. Availability
Broadcom is currently sampling the BCM68850 and its companion BCM55050 ONT to early access customers and partners; interested operators can contact their local sales representative for sample requests and pricing details.
