Brookfield backs U.S.-Korea framework for up to $120 billion nuclear buildout using Westinghouse technology
BAM•Brookfield welcomed a U.S.-Korea framework backed by up to $120 billion in Korean investment to deploy Westinghouse nuclear technology. Funding targets eight new U.S. reactors, including six Westinghouse AP1000 units and two Korean APR1400 reactors.
1. Reactor plans
The framework targets eight new reactors at U.S. federal sites: six Westinghouse AP1000 units across three two-reactor plants and two Korean APR1400 reactors. Westinghouse would receive an upfront payment, guaranteed work scope and a fuel-fabrication contract.
2. Westinghouse investment
The framework includes a planned 5%–10% cornerstone equity investment in Westinghouse by Korea. It builds on an October 2025 U.S. Commerce partnership with Brookfield, Cameco and Westinghouse to deploy at least $80 billion of reactors.
