California American Water launched the final phase of its $1.4 million Austin Steiner Main Replacement Project in Fruitridge Vista, replacing aging backyard mains with street-installed infrastructure. It follows a $67 million program that replaced 86,000 feet of main, with 25,000 feet slated for replacement by end 2026 to boost reliability.

1. Project Launch and Scope

California American Water initiated the final phase of the multi-year Fruitridge Vista modernization with the Austin Steiner Main Replacement Project. This phase replaces aging backyard water mains with new street-installed infrastructure serving households between 47th and 53rd avenues and Hilts Avenue to 46th Avenue west of 44th Street.

2. Service Reliability and Metering Benefits

Replacing backyard mains will improve water flow, reduce service interruptions and support the transition to individual metered billing. The new infrastructure enhances operational efficiency and provides customers with clearer consumption data to promote water conservation.

3. Investment History and Future Upgrades

To date, $67 million has upgraded 86,000 feet of mains and added over 100 fire hydrants. An additional 25,000 feet of pipe is slated for replacement by the end of 2026, underpinning ongoing efforts to strengthen fire protection and system reliability.
