Calumet Reports 750,000-Barrel Q1 Shreveport Outage; Montana Biofuel Expansion 70% Complete
Calumet’s Shreveport facility lost about 750,000 barrels of production due to organic chlorides, but resumed processing over 50,000 barrels per day after repairs. Its Montana Renewables MaxSAF expansion is over 70% complete, on schedule and within budget during a planned 48-day turnaround.
1. Shreveport Facility Outage
Late in Q1, Calumet’s Shreveport refinery detected organic chlorides in feedstock tanks, triggering an unplanned shutdown to prevent corrosion and equipment damage. The outage halted major operations, resulting in approximately 750,000 barrels of lost production before third-party experts and internal teams completed testing, repairs, and inspections.
2. Resumption of Shreveport Operations
Following extensive maintenance, the Shreveport facility is back online, processing over 50,000 barrels per day of feedstock. Restoration efforts included asset inspections, equipment replacements, and ongoing monitoring to ensure no further contamination risks.
3. Montana Renewables Expansion Progress
Montana Renewables began a planned shutdown the week of March 2 for its MaxSAF expansion and additional turnarounds, scheduled for 48 days. The project has surpassed 70% completion and remains on time and within its established budget, supporting Calumet’s renewable fuels growth strategy.
