Canada is seeking to reduce its reliance on the United States by deepening trade ties with India, the EU and other partners, Foreign Minister Anita Anand said. Ottawa aims to double non-U.S. trade over the next 10 years.
Anand said negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement with India were progressing well and Canada aims to conclude it by year-end. Canada says a deal could more than double bilateral goods and services trade to $70 billion annually by 2030, from $30.4 billion in 2025.
Canada and the EU are expected to discuss critical minerals, energy and artificial intelligence at a summit later this month. Canada has concluded 15 trade agreements covering 51 countries and is looking to sign a pact with ASEAN in 2026.
