Canadian stock futures edge higher
Futures tracking Canada's blue-chip stocks edged higher on Monday, steadying after recent jitters in the tech sector, while escalating U.S.-Iran tensions and a domestic inflation report later in the day kept investors cautious.
September contracts tracking the resources-heavy S&P/TSX Composite Index SXFc1 were up 0.3% at 7:55 a.m. ET.
Inflation data and rate expectations
- The focus will be on June inflation data, due at 8:30 am ET. Economists polled by Reuters anticipate price pressures to rise 2.9% in June, cooling from a 3.2% rise in the month before.
- Traders see a 56% chance that the Bank of Canada will lift interest rates by at least 25 basis points in December, LSEG-compiled data showed.
Tech weakness and oil moves in focus
Here are some details:
- The main stock index logged small weekly declines on Friday as a global selloff in semiconductor stocks dented investor sentiment on concerns about ballooning valuations.
