Candel Therapeutics phase 2a NSCLC study shows 24.5-month median overall survival with aglatimagene plus valacyclovir after ICI failure
CADL•Candel Therapeutics reported final Phase 2a results in advanced NSCLC patients whose cancers did not respond adequately to checkpoint inhibitors, with median overall survival of 24.5 months. The company said the regimen is being evaluated against docetaxel in the global Phase 3 AURORA study.
1. Phase 2a results
Candel Therapeutics reported final Phase 2a results for aglatimagene plus valacyclovir in advanced NSCLC patients whose cancers did not respond adequately to checkpoint inhibitors. Median overall survival was 24.5 months, and results had also been presented in a peer-reviewed publication in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer.
2. Safety and next study
The treatment was associated with longer survival than historical chemotherapy outcomes in this setting, the company said, supporting further development. Safety appeared manageable, with mostly mild flu-like side effects; a minority of patients had more serious treatment-related events. The ongoing global Phase 3 AURORA study is comparing the regimen with docetaxel in metastatic non-squamous NSCLC.
