Carnival Reports 6M-Customer Data Breach and Debuts LNG Bunkering
CCL•Carnival Corporation disclosed a cyber breach that exposed personal data of nearly 6 million customers, raising potential regulatory and reputational risks. Separately, the company executed the cruise industry's first LNG bunkering in Latin America and the Western Caribbean, refueling Carnival Jubilee at Roatán as part of its net-zero by 2050 decarbonization strategy.
1. Data Breach Exposes Nearly 6 Million Customer Records
On June 1, Carnival disclosed a cyber intrusion that exposed personal data for nearly 6 million customers, including names, contact information and travel histories. The incident may prompt regulatory inquiries under privacy laws, raise potential fines, increase cybersecurity spending and undermine customer trust.
2. First LNG Bunkering in Latin America and Western Caribbean
Also on June 1, Carnival executed the cruise industry’s first liquefied natural gas bunkering in Latin America and the Western Caribbean, refueling the Carnival Jubilee at Isla Tropicale in Roatán, Honduras. This operation expands the company’s LNG infrastructure, supports a 20% reduction in carbon emissions per voyage and builds on its fleet of 11 LNG-capable vessels, with seven more expected by 2033, advancing its net-zero by 2050 goal.
