CARS•Cars.com’s 21st annual American-Made Index features 86 vehicles, down from 99 last year after tariffs reshaped lineups. Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y claim the top two spots, foreign automakers supply 65% of the list, and the Detroit Three retain about one-third.

Cars.com unveiled its 21st annual American-Made Index evaluating over 350 models on U.S. assembly, parts sourcing, factory employment, engine and transmission origin to rank the 86 vehicles that most contribute to the U.S. economy.

The 2026 index shrank to 86 vehicles from 99 in 2025 as tariffs enforced since 2025 prompted lineup adjustments, while the share of electrified models fell from 30% to 24% following the sunset of the federal EV tax credit.

Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y secured the first and second spots, foreign automakers account for 65% of the list, the Detroit Three contribute roughly one-third, and Toyota and Honda place the most vehicles overall.
