Caterpillar said it plans to invest about $1 billion in North Carolina, including a new manufacturing facility in Sanford to increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers. The facility is expected to support the company's U.S. manufacturing operations and create positions related to automation, robotics, digital manufacturing and production systems.
2. Demand for equipment
Caterpillar Construction Industries Group President Rod Shurman said the company is increasing its investment to support an expanding customer segment as demand for compact equipment rises. The equipment is used in construction, landscaping, agriculture and material handling.
3. Recent order growth
The company has seen a surge in construction equipment orders over the last few quarters amid a nationwide buildout of data centers and demand for backup power equipment for those buildings.
