CBOT soybeans close lower after USDA stocks report
DBA•CBOT November soybean futures fell 4-3/4 cents to $12.93 per bushel after the USDA reported 315 million bushels in storage on September 1, down 3% from a year earlier and below analysts’ 324-million-bushel expectation.
1. Stocks below expectations
The USDA said U.S. farmers and grain handlers held 315 million bushels of soybeans in storage as of September 1, down from 325 million a year earlier. Analysts had expected 324 million bushels.
2. Futures and harvest conditions
November soybeans closed down 4-3/4 cents at $12.93 per bushel. December soymeal fell $2.10 to $356.90 per ton, while December soyoil declined 0.08 cent to 68.28 cents per pound. Harvest delays in Midwest states including Iowa supported prices, but forecasters predicted improving weather after Friday; rain was expected to continue disrupting harvest, with analysts noting a risk of crop damage from sprouting.
3. Export sale confirmed
The USDA also confirmed private sales of 105,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to unknown destinations for delivery in the 2026/27 marketing year, which began September 1.
