US trade court probes Trump's 'forced labor' tariffs
SPY•The US Court of International Trade heard arguments over tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trading partners, imposed in July over forced-labor concerns. The panel is expected to issue a written ruling in the coming weeks.
1. Court hears challenge
Four small businesses and 25 Democratic-led states argue that the tariffs exceed President Donald Trump's authority and that the administration did not make required country-specific findings. The government says it investigated forced labor in international commerce and concluded tariffs were warranted for each of the 60 trading partners.
2. Ruling expected soon
The plaintiffs asked the court to strike down the tariffs. The panel could instead require the government to redo its investigation and provide more detail and justifications.
