Oklo and Centrus to Launch HALEU Deconversion and Enrichment JV at Ohio Piketon Site
Oklo Inc. and Centrus Energy Corp. plan a joint venture at Centrus’s Piketon site in Ohio to provide deconversion services for HALEU and support Oklo’s planned 1.2-gigawatt power campus. The venture will integrate enrichment and deconversion to cut costs, boost efficiency and expand domestic fuel capacity, pursuing federal regulatory approvals.
1. Joint Venture Overview
Oklo Inc. and Centrus Energy Corp. announced plans to explore a joint venture at Centrus’s Piketon site in Ohio, adjacent to Oklo’s proposed 1.2-gigawatt advanced reactor power campus. The collaboration will focus on deconversion services for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) and related fuel-cycle technologies.
2. Integrated Fuel-Cycle Strategy
The partners intend to co-locate uranium enrichment and deconversion operations to streamline the fuel-cycle process, aiming to reduce operational costs, improve efficiency and support growing demand for advanced reactor fuels within the domestic market.
3. Regulatory Engagement and Supply Chain Impact
As part of the initiative, Oklo and Centrus will engage federal agencies to coordinate regulatory approvals and strengthen U.S. nuclear fuel supply chain capabilities, addressing strategic goals for energy security and advanced nuclear development.
