Centrus Picks Geiger Brothers for $ Multi-Billion Ohio Uranium Enrichment Expansion
Centrus Energy has selected Geiger Brothers as the construction contractor for its multi–billion–dollar uranium enrichment capacity expansion in Piketon, Ohio, complementing Fluor’s EPC scope. The project will deploy thousands of AC100M centrifuges to support a $2.3 billion LEU backlog and add at least 12 metric tons per year of HALEU capacity.
1. Contract Award Details
Centrus Energy has chosen Geiger Brothers as the primary construction contractor for its Piketon, Ohio enrichment plant expansion, pairing the firm’s century-long industrial construction expertise with Fluor’s global EPC leadership.
2. Expansion Scope and Capacity
The multi-billion-dollar project involves deploying thousands of AC100M centrifuges to expand low-enriched uranium capacity, underpin Centrus’ $2.3 billion commercial LEU backlog and deliver at least 12 metric tons per year of high-assay LEU.
3. Cost Efficiency and Local Expertise
By combining Fluor’s engineering, procurement and project management with Geiger’s Ohio-based workforce and on-site execution capabilities, Centrus aims to mitigate unit costs, shorten lead times and maintain its schedule for scaling domestic enrichment capabilities.
