1. AI Data Center Power Plant Agreement
Chevron has entered an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft and Engine No. 1 to develop a proposed $7 billion natural gas-fired power plant in West Texas. The 2,500 MW facility is designed to supply electricity for AI data centers and is slated for startup by 2027, though terms remain under negotiation.
2. Upstream Exploration to Replenish Reserves
In parallel, Chevron is accelerating upstream exploration efforts to replace dwindling reserves, aligning with other supermajors that have reversed prior production cuts. The company aims to tap new resource plays and boost long-term production capacity amid sustained oil and gas demand.
