CIBC joins BIS-led Project Agorá cross-border payments initiative
CM•CIBC will join Project Agorá, a global public-private initiative testing tokenization for wholesale cross-border payments. The project is developing a shared platform for tokenized commercial bank deposits and central bank reserves to enable atomic multi-currency settlement; CIBC plans to contribute to the next phase after real-value testing completed in July 2026.
1. Next phase participation
CIBC will join Project Agorá, convened by the Bank for International Settlements and the Institute of International Finance. The initiative is testing tokenization for wholesale cross-border payments and targets a shared platform for tokenized commercial bank deposits and central bank reserves to enable atomic multi-currency settlement. CIBC plans to contribute to the next phase, following real-value testing completed in July 2026.
