Cibus, Crystal Crop partner to develop gene-edited mustard traits for India
CBUS•Cibus entered an agreement with Crystal Crop Protection to develop gene-edited mustard traits for India. Crystal Crop will evaluate and commercialize resulting traits under an exclusive India license; the partners aim to improve yields and farm economics.
1. Mustard traits deal
The agreement targets gene-edited mustard traits for India, where mustard is grown on about 8.5 million hectares. Average yields are 1,200-1,400 kilograms per hectare, compared with 1,800-2,000 in leading producing countries. India imports more than half its edible oil, about 17 million tonnes yearly.
