CME Group Executes First 100-Contract South Asia Palm Oil Futures Trade
On March 5 CME Group executed the first block trade of 100 South Asia Crude Palm Oil (Fastmarkets) futures contracts between Avere Commodities and Olam Agri. The trade is part of four new edible oil futures launched on March 2 that offer South Asian participants enhanced price discovery and hedging.
1. New South Asia Edible Oil Futures Introduced
On March 2, CME Group launched four cash-settled South Asia edible oil futures contracts: South Asia Soybean Oil (Fastmarkets), South Asia Crude Palm Oil (Fastmarkets) and two spread products versus CBOT Soybean Oil and USD Malaysian Crude Palm Oil benchmarks.
2. First Block Trade Executed
On March 5, the exchange recorded the inaugural block trade of 100 South Asia Crude Palm Oil (Fastmarkets) futures contracts between Avere Commodities and Olam Agri, executed via ICAP to facilitate large-volume hedging.
3. Market Impact and Benefits
These new contracts aim to strengthen price discovery and hedging for South Asian vegetable oil traders, with potential to establish global benchmarks and expand CME Group’s agricultural product offerings.
