Coherent Enhances Multi-Rail Platform and Eyes S&P 500 Entry on March 23
Coherent announced enhancements to its multi-rail transport platform, integrating four C+L band transport rails within a single 1RU in-line amplifier card, boosting power efficiency and capacity for AI network expansion. The company will join the S&P 500 on March 23, 2026, triggering anticipated mechanical buying ahead of index inclusion.
1. Platform Enhancements Drive AI Network Efficiency
Coherent has upgraded its multi-rail optical transport platform to support four C+L band transport rails within a single 1RU in-line amplifier card, boosting system power efficiency and transport capacity without expanding the footprint. The design leverages proprietary building blocks—high-power multi-port 980nm pump lasers, octal dynamic gain equalizers, multi-port optical time domain reflectometers and optical channel monitors—and complements its datacenter interconnect transceiver lineup spanning 100G, 400G and 800G, including new 100G-ZR bi-directional modules and nano-ITLA assemblies.
2. Upcoming S&P 500 Inclusion
Coherent will be added to the S&P 500 index on March 23, 2026, creating a date-certain catalyst as index-tracking funds are required to purchase its shares. This mechanical inflow could offset recent pullback pressure and attract passive investment, potentially supporting a reversal in the stock’s near-term performance.
