Coherent Launches Dual-Laser QSFP28-DCO for 100G Single-Fiber Transmission
Coherent released the industry’s first dual-laser QSFP28-DCO module enabling bi-directional 100G coherent transmission over a single fiber. It extends link reach up to 300km, delivers a 10× capacity boost versus 10G bi-directional links, and lets operators maximize capacity on fiber-limited routes.
1. Product Launch and Features
Coherent has begun shipping its first dual-laser QSFP28-DCO module, enabling bi-directional 100G coherent transmission over a single fiber in a standard QSFP28 form factor. This module integrates two lasers to support simultaneous transmit and receive channels on one strand of fiber.
2. Performance and Capacity Upgrades
The dual-laser design extends link reach up to 300km and delivers a tenfold capacity increase compared to legacy 10G bi-directional modules. Operators can deploy multiple 100G services on existing fiber without laying new cables, significantly reducing upgrade costs.
3. Market Applications
The solution targets fiber-constrained network segments, including cable and wireless transport applications, where expanding fiber plants is cost-prohibitive. Service providers can maximize fiber plant utilization while maintaining operational simplicity and compatibility with deployed equipment.
4. Compatibility and Availability
Built on Coherent’s proven single-laser QSFP28-DCO technology, the module is fully compatible with existing coherent optics ecosystems. General availability begins in March 2026, supporting rapid integration into current network infrastructures.
