Comcast’s Xfinity launched RealTime4K to deliver Super Bowl LX with ultra-low latency, reaching customers seconds behind live action and up to 30 seconds faster than other 4K providers. The service also offers Dolby Vision and Atmos via a dedicated Peacock 4K channel on X1 and Xfinity Stream.
1. Fourth-Quarter Results Exceed Earnings Estimates
Comcast reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.84 for the quarter, surpassing the consensus estimate of $0.75. While consolidated revenue of $32.31 billion trailed analyst forecasts by roughly $40 million, the company delivered a solid performance on profitability metrics. Adjusted EBITDA rose 10.3% year over year to $7.9 billion, driven by strong contributions from its wireless and theme parks businesses. Net income attributable to Comcast declined 54.6% to $2.17 billion, reflecting an unfavorable comparison to a prior-year tax benefit, but adjusted net income of $3.06 billion was only 17% below the year-ago level after excluding nonrecurring items.
2. Connectivity & Platforms Segment Shows Diverging Trends
Revenue for the Connectivity & Platforms division totaled $20.24 billion, down 1.1% year over year as broadband customer losses offset higher average pricing. The unit lost 181,000 domestic broadband customers but achieved its best wireless performance ever, adding 364,000 net lines in the quarter and reaching over 9.3 million total wireless connections. Adjusted EBITDA for the segment was $7.50 billion, down 4.3%, as margin pressures in residential broadband were partially offset by 5.8% growth in business services connectivity revenue and lower operating expenses in programming and support functions.
3. Cash Flow Strength and Capital Returns
Comcast generated $8.84 billion of operating cash flow in the quarter, up 9.4% year over year, and free cash flow jumped 34% to $4.37 billion. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.33 per share, maintaining an annualized payout of $1.32. During the period, the company returned $2.7 billion to shareholders through $1.2 billion in dividends and $1.5 billion in share buybacks. For the full year, Comcast delivered $19.24 billion of free cash flow and returned $11.7 billion of capital to investors, including $6.8 billion in share repurchases.
