1. Comcast Agrees to $117.5M Settlement

Comcast has agreed to pay $117.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over its October 2023 cybersecurity breach that exposed usernames, passwords, contact information, dates of birth and last four digits of Social Security numbers for millions of Xfinity customers. The communications company denies any wrongdoing but will fulfill the settlement obligations.

2. Claim Eligibility and Deadlines

Current and former Xfinity customers who received breach notifications in December 2023 are eligible to submit claims under the settlement. All claims, whether for documented losses or the alternative payment, must be filed by August 14.

3. Payout Structures

Qualified claimants can seek reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket expenses or lost time for up to $10,000, with actual payouts dependent on the total number of valid claims. Consumers who opt out of detailed claims may instead receive a fixed payment of $50, which could adjust based on claimant participation.

4. Approval Hearing and Distribution

A final approval hearing is scheduled for July 7, after which the court will authorize distribution of funds. Settlement payments will be issued following judicial approval and verification of submitted claims.
