Consumers Energy Exceeds 6,500-Acre Restoration Goal, Opens 100+ Acres to Public
CMS•Consumers Energy restored 6,700 acres by 2026, surpassing its 6,500-acre land restoration target set for 2027. The company has opened over 100 acres for public recreation across 80 communities and hosted 4,300 picnic and 18,000 campground visitors at its Ludington facility in 2025.
1. Restoration Milestone Achieved
Consumers Energy committed to enhancing, restoring, or protecting 6,500 acres through 2027 and has already completed 6,700 acres by mid-2026. Its professional forestry teams conducted cleanups, removed invasive species and planted native trees to balance ecological, cultural and economic needs.
2. Public Recreation Expansion
The company permitted over 100 acres of utility land for public use in more than 80 Michigan communities, enabling 72 trails for hiking, biking, snowmobiling and ORV activities. In 2025, its Ludington Pumped Storage facility hosted 4,300 picnic visitors and 18,000 campers.
3. Ongoing Land Strategy
Consumers Energy is reviewing additional opportunities to share private lands for recreation and conservation, supporting its goal to marry reliable energy delivery for 6.8 million customers with environmental stewardship through 2027.
