Contract vote looms for Boeing workers after improved offer
BA•Boeing’s roughly 17,000 engineers and technical workers will vote Thursday on a revised contract offering a 10% raise upon ratification and 4% guaranteed annual increases, with possible 2% performance increases. A second rejection could clear the way for a strike as soon as Oct. 7.
1. Revised offer goes to vote
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace will vote Thursday on Boeing’s revised four-year contract offer. The union’s two units rejected Boeing’s first offer in August; the new proposal raises guaranteed annual increases to 4%, from a formula tied to inflation capped at 3%, and includes possible performance increases of 2%.
2. Strike could halt work
A second rejection could clear the way for a walkout as soon as Oct. 7, after the current contracts expire on Oct. 6. A strike would halt certification work on the 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 and disrupt Boeing’s effort to increase jet deliveries, the article says.
3. Union views differ
Councils for both union units recommended accepting the latest offer, and some members who opposed the first proposal said they now support the revised one. Others remain opposed, saying the raises may not be enough if inflation climbs and fuel prices stay high.
