Costco Will Open Two New Warehouses, Pushing U.S. Store Count Past 640
COST•Costco is set to open its 641st and 642nd U.S. warehouses in Syracuse, Utah on June 24 and Pensacola, Florida on June 25, pushing past 640 stores as it targets 26 new warehouses in fiscal 2026. A Canada animal welfare scorecard shows Costco has only 21% cage-free sourcing in Canada.
1. New Store Openings This Week
Costco plans to open two new warehouses in the U.S. this week: its 641st in Syracuse, Utah on June 24 and its 642nd in Pensacola, Florida on June 25. These openings increase the U.S. count past 640 stores as the company reiterates plans to launch 26 new warehouses during fiscal year 2026.
2. Expansion Pipeline
In 2025, Costco introduced stores in The Villages, Florida; Richland, Washington; and North Guadalajara, Mexico. It has also scheduled eight additional August 2026 openings across Albany, New York; Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Otsego, Minnesota; Mansfield and Celina, Texas; Stone Mountain, Georgia; and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with management targeting 30 or more warehouses annually thereafter.
3. Canada Animal Welfare Scorecard
A Canada animal welfare scorecard finds Costco has achieved just 21% cage-free sourcing in its Canadian operations, compared with 47% in the United States and 82% in the United Kingdom. The company’s minimal progress on cage-free production could raise reputational concerns among socially conscious shoppers.
