Cotiviti says Medicare Advantage plans face tougher 2027 Star Ratings thresholds
XLV•Cotiviti’s analysis found fewer Medicare Advantage contracts reached four stars or higher as performance requirements tightened; nearly half of rating cut points became harder to meet, and clinical, member-experience and related measures are projected to represent 80% of rating weight by Star Year 2029.
1. Tighter rating thresholds
Cotiviti’s analysis of 2027 Medicare Advantage Star Ratings found fewer contracts achieved four stars or higher as performance requirements tightened. Nearly half of rating cut points became harder to meet, while narrower two-to-five-star thresholds increased plans’ sensitivity to small performance shifts.
2. Measures and planning
Clinical, member-experience and related measures are projected to account for 80% of rating weight by Star Year 2029. Further measure changes make performance forecasting, protecting heavily weighted measures and monitoring member sentiment year-round strategic priorities for plans.
