CSX and CPKC launched upgraded Southeast Mexico Express service on May 4, cutting transit times by 20-45%, including one-day faster runs between Atlanta and Dallas and 2.5 days faster between Atlanta and central Mexico. The SMX train provides two-day Atlanta-Dallas service and adds origins in Charlotte, Jacksonville and central Florida.

1. Service Enhancements

On May 4, CSX and Canadian Pacific Kansas City introduced upgraded Southeast Mexico Express service featuring SMX-dedicated trains and industry-leading transit improvements. Transit times have been reduced by 20-45%, with one-day faster runs between Atlanta and Dallas and up to 2.5 days faster between Atlanta and central Mexico, boosting reliability and speed.

2. Infrastructure Investments

The enhancements follow targeted capital investments in the former Meridian & Bigbee Railroad corridor, including track, bridge and signal upgrades across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. These upgrades support higher speeds and reliability, enabling the new two-day Atlanta-Dallas service and an optimized interchange near Myrtlewood, Alabama.

3. Market and Customer Impact

The upgraded SMX service adds origin points in Charlotte, Jacksonville and central Florida, expanding access to key Texas and Mexican markets. Customers benefit from truck-competitive transit times, increased capacity and environmental gains by replacing up to 300 semi-trucks per train.
