Cumberland Pharmaceuticals says ifetroban was well tolerated in phase 2a systemic sclerosis trial
CPIX•Cumberland Pharmaceuticals said its phase 2a ASSIST-SSc trial found oral ifetroban generally well tolerated, with no serious adverse events attributed to treatment. The trial was not designed to establish efficacy, and the company plans biomarker studies, cardiac imaging evaluations and an FDA clinical study report submission.
1. Trial safety findings
Top-line results announced October 23, 2026, showed oral ifetroban was generally well tolerated in systemic sclerosis patients. Gastrointestinal and bleeding-related adverse events were more frequent with ifetroban but were predominantly mild; no serious adverse events were attributed to treatment.
2. Efficacy remains unclear
The trial was not designed to establish efficacy, and limited disease progression and the trial’s small size prevented conclusions about treatment benefits. Planned biomarker studies and cardiac imaging evaluations will inform decisions on further development in systemic sclerosis, and the company plans to submit the clinical study report to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
