Deals of the day — mergers and acquisitions
VTRS•Viatris will buy Pacira BioSciences for $1.65 billion in cash. Other developments included reported iFood talks to buy Caju, BAM’s €504 million agreement to acquire A.Hak, and opposition to Monte dei Paschi’s proposed acquisitions.
1. Healthcare and insurance deals
Viatris agreed to buy Pacira BioSciences for $1.65 billion in cash, adding two non-opioid pain treatments to its portfolio. Alliant Insurance Services acquired Melcher & Prescott, while Equal Parts said it acquired El Valle Insurance, Archer Insurance Solutions and Loma Portal Insurance in the third quarter. Pen Underwriting acquired Ireland-based Ornella Underwriting.
2. Other deal developments
iFood is reportedly in advanced talks to buy employee benefits provider Caju. BAM Groep agreed to acquire A.Hak at an enterprise value of €504 million ($565 million). Credit Agricole’s chief executive said the bank would not tender its 29.3% stake in Banco BPM into Monte dei Paschi’s takeover offer, while Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone’s holding company said it would vote against MPS proposals involving Banco BPM and Banca Generali. Anglo American’s proposed $54 billion merger with Teck Resources and a potential BBC-Channel 4 operational tie-up were also discussed.
