Delta Air Lines Forecasts 5%–7% Q1 Revenue Growth and 52% EPS Surge
Fourth-quarter revenue rose 1.2% year-over-year, EPS fell 16%, while premium product revenue increased 7% year-over-year. Management guides first-quarter revenue growth of 5%–7% and non-GAAP EPS of $0.50–$0.90, with the midpoint implying 52% year-over-year earnings growth.
1. Financial Performance and Momentum
Delta Air Lines reported a fourth-quarter revenue increase of 1.2% year over year, driven by resilient premium-cabin sales that rose 7% despite an overall slowdown in top-line growth. Non-GAAP earnings per share declined by 16%, but management highlighted that the airline has generated $10 billion in free cash flow over the past three years. This strong cash generation has allowed the company to reduce leverage by more than 50% and maintain a return on invested capital of 12%, comfortably above its cost of capital and in the upper half of the S&P 500.
2. Strong Q1 Guidance and Early 2026 Trends
Delta’s leadership noted that the first weeks of 2026 show accelerating demand, with cash sales and record bookings up in double digits compared to last year. For the first quarter, the airline forecasts revenue growth of 5%–7% and non-GAAP earnings per share between $0.50 and $0.90, implying a midpoint increase of approximately 52% year over year. Those figures reflect improving consumer and corporate travel trends since mid-January and underpin management’s optimism about a continued rebound in passenger volumes.
3. Valuation and Balance Sheet Considerations
Shares currently trade at around nine times trailing earnings, presenting an attractive valuation against the backdrop of robust free cash flow and strong guidance. Delta ended 2025 with $4.6 billion in free cash flow and carries an adjusted net debt position of about $14 billion, levels management deems easily manageable. Nonetheless, industry cyclicality and capital intensity pose risks, and investors are reminded to maintain disciplined position sizing given how quickly travel demand can shift.
