Deutsche Bank chief warns German election results worry foreign investors
EWG•Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing warned that victories by parties on the political extremes in German state elections may drive away foreign investors and pose a significant risk to the country.
1. Investor concerns
Sewing said foreign investors may see state election results as reflecting Germany as a whole, and warned that the rise of political extremes poses a significant risk. The AfD won strongly in eastern Germany, while Berlin’s Left Party pledged to expropriate residential property company holdings.
2. Call for reforms
Sewing said the political developments were not conducive to economic growth or investment and urged Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government to continue reforms to revive the economy.
