Deutsche Telekom Security Deploys Akamai’s API Security and Sovereign Cloud Segmentation

AKAMAKAM

Deutsche Telekom Security has adopted Akamai’s Security Certified Service Provider initiative to deliver API security and microsegmentation services—covering Day-2 operations, hybrid deployments, quarterly reviews, incident management and compliance audits—to finance, insurance, critical infrastructure and public sector customers. It also offers Guardicore segmentation services on sovereign cloud environments.

1. Deutsche Telekom Security Partnership Broadens Certified Services

Akamai has deepened its collaboration with Deutsche Telekom Security through the Security Certified Service Provider initiative. Under the agreement, Deutsche Telekom Security now offers end-to-end API security lifecycle management—with proactive Day-2 operations, hybrid deployment support, quarterly business reviews and comprehensive API audits and compliance checks. The partner will also manage Akamai Guardicore Segmentation environments, delivering segmentation administration, security incident handling and compliance services on sovereign cloud platforms. This expansion leverages Deutsche Telekom Security’s 240 global specialists and 24/7 SOC operations to support critical sectors such as finance, insurance, infrastructure and the public sector.

2. Rising API Threats Underscore Demand for Microsegmentation

Akamai’s 2025 State of the Internet report documented a surge to 150 billion recorded API attacks between January 2023 and December 2024, highlighting a significant rise in targeted exploitation of application interfaces. The combination of proactive security incident management and microsegmentation—implemented by Deutsche Telekom Security for a major German state bank—helped secure sensitive infrastructure and maintain full regulatory compliance. These developments respond directly to the elevated risk environment faced by highly regulated industries, where data breaches can inflict severe financial losses and reputational harm.

3. Edge AI and Cloud Security Drive Q3 Growth

In its latest quarterly results, Akamai reported a 39% year-over-year increase in cloud intelligence services (CIS) revenue and a 10% rise in security revenue, while non-GAAP earnings per share grew 17%. Management attributed the strength to accelerated adoption of edge AI inference capabilities and expanded cloud security deployments that offset modest declines in legacy CDN offerings. Analysts noted that customer demand for distributed AI models and real-time threat mitigation at the edge has become a key growth vector for the company’s full-stack platform.

4. Analyst Upgrade Reflects 16% Upside Potential

Following the company’s robust Q3 performance and strategic shift toward edge AI and cloud security, a leading brokerage reiterated a Buy rating on Akamai with a one-year upside projection of 16%. The firm highlighted Akamai’s successful migration of enterprise workloads to its distributed platform and its strengthened partner ecosystem—particularly the enhanced Security Certified Service Provider program—as critical catalysts. Investors are expected to monitor continued margin expansion in CIS and security segments, as well as new deployments in high-value verticals such as financial services and critical infrastructure.
