Disney creators build original witch world for upcoming film ‘Hexed’
DIS•Disney’s upcoming animated fantasy film “Hexed” follows a teenage girl who discovers magical powers and reconnects with her mother. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 25.
1. A mother-daughter story
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn said “Hexed” centers on a mother and daughter rekindling their relationship after years of strain. The film follows Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, as she discovers magical powers that lead her into Hexe, a supernatural world of witches.
2. An original world
The filmmakers drew on existing witch lore but created much of Hexe from scratch, including an original approach to spellcasting. Producer Yvett Merino said the team wanted Billie, her mother Alice and the world of Hexe to stand out as a brand-new intellectual property.
