Dmitriev says Russian wealth fund will work with US on payment for diesel deal
USO•Kirill Dmitriev said the U.S. Treasury asked the Russian Direct Investment Fund to help resolve payment issues for a Russian diesel deal involving U.S. and global markets. He said the fund would work to ensure payments reach their intended recipients, while sanctions complicate the agreement.
1. Payment assistance
Kirill Dmitriev said the U.S. Treasury had asked the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which he heads, to facilitate payments and resolve tactical issues related to the diesel deal. He said the fund would work to ensure payments were efficient and reached their intended recipients.
2. Sanctions complicate deal
The deal announced by Donald Trump a week earlier involves supplying Russian diesel to U.S. and global markets to lower fuel prices. Dmitriev said overlapping sanctions had made it difficult to determine how to proceed and said discussions were underway on lifting them.
3. Broader cooperation at risk
Dmitriev said the diesel deal could serve as a model for other economic cooperation between Russia and the United States. He also said the Graham Act, which he said was about to take effect, would effectively prohibit investment cooperation between the two countries.
