CART•DoorDash said it would buy Instacart in a deal valued at about $17 billion, offering shareholders $65 per share, at least 75% in cash. The deal is expected to close at the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028.
DoorDash offered Instacart shareholders $65 per share, a premium of about 26% to Instacart’s closing price on October 22, before reports of deal talks first emerged. At least 75% of the consideration will be cash; shareholders can elect cash, DoorDash stock or a combination. The transaction is expected to close at the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028.
DoorDash said the acquisition would strengthen its push into grocery delivery. New York City’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection said a potential merger continued a “troubling trend” of corporate consolidation. DoorDash pledged that local grocers could continue working with any delivery platform they choose.
