On April 18 Duke Energy will recognize National Lineworker Appreciation Day, highlighting its 3,600 in-house lineworkers and over 10,000 contracted staff who strengthen the grid through maintenance, upgrades and storm-response across its six-state service area. The utility serves 8.7 million electric customers with 55,700 MW capacity and 1.6 million gas customers, and is executing an energy modernization strategy investing in grid upgrades and efficient generation to enhance reliability and meet growing demand.

2. Grid Strengthening Initiatives
Lineworkers—including line, substation and relay technicians—install, maintain and upgrade poles, transformers and power lines. They also deploy technology to detect and isolate issues, reducing outage frequency and accelerating restoration times.

Duke Energy employs approximately 3,600 full-time lineworkers supported by over 10,000 additional professionals across six states. The electric utilities serve 8.7 million customers with 55,700 MW of capacity, while natural gas operations reach 1.6 million customers.
