Elanco Deploys Six FDA/EPA-Authorized Screwworm Treatments After Texas Livestock Case
ELAN•Elanco has mobilized six FDA- or EPA-authorized treatments, including Credelio Quattro and Negasunt Powder, to combat the first U.S. livestock New World screwworm case in Texas. The firm will work with APHIS, state officials and tribal agencies for emergency-use and conditional-approval treatment distribution.
1. Outbreak Confirmation and Threat
New World screwworm has been confirmed in U.S. livestock in Texas, marking the first case detected north of the Florida Keys in over 50 years. The larvae pose a severe risk to livestock and companion animals, feeding on living tissue and threatening animal health and producer livelihoods.
2. Elanco’s Treatment Portfolio
Elanco offers six authorized treatment and prevention products, including FDA conditionally approved Credelio Quattro for dogs, EUA-approved Credelio variants for dogs and cats, and livestock-focused Negasunt Powder and Tanidil under EPA and FDA emergency use or exemptions.
3. Regulatory and Distribution Strategy
Products will be distributed through APHIS, state animal health officials, and federally recognized tribal agencies under emergency-use and conditional approvals. Elanco is coordinating with federal and state bodies to ensure targeted delivery, tracking, and reporting for effective outbreak management.
4. Implications for Elanco’s Business
The outbreak may drive increased demand for Elanco’s specialized treatments, potentially boosting short-term product sales. Strengthened partnerships with regulatory agencies could enhance Elanco’s market positioning in emergency animal health interventions.
