Emera and Canadian Utilities to merge, forming $72 billion enterprise-value utility
EMA•Emera and Canadian Utilities plan to merge, forming a utility with a $72 billion enterprise value. The combined company plans $32 billion in capital spending through 2030 and targets 7%-8% rate-base growth.
1. Merger terms
Emera said Canadian Utilities shareholders will own 40% of the combined company and are expected to receive a 20% dividend increase; Emera shareholders will own 60%. The deal is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter of 2027 and is expected to be accretive to adjusted earnings per share in its first year.
