Employees Dedicate 67.5% of Upskilling to AI Despite Only 4% of Job Listings
Udemy’s joint research with Indeed shows only 4% of job listings mention AI while employees devote 67.5% of upskilling to AI—tech workers allocate 95% to AI though 17.5% of growing tech skills are AI-related. In manufacturing, 60% of learning focuses on AI despite zero AI skills in top job postings.
1. Udemy and Indeed Research Reveals Significant Upskilling Disconnect
Udemy, the AI-powered skills acceleration platform, partnered with Indeed to publish “The Future-Proofing Instinct,” analyzing data from September 2023 to September 2025 across Australia, India, the UK and the US. The study shows that while only 4% of job postings mention AI, 67.5% of employee upskilling efforts are AI-oriented. In technology roles, 95% of upskilling is focused on AI even though AI skills account for just 17.5% of the fastest-growing tech job requirements. In manufacturing, 60% of worker learning targets AI despite none of the sector’s top job posting skills being AI-related. Conversely, soft skills such as communication, critical thinking and leadership rank high in employer demand lists but fall outside Udemy’s fastest-growing course topics, underscoring a misalignment that could hamper long-term performance in an AI-driven economy.
2. Udemy to Report Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2025 Results and Update on Coursera Combination
Udemy announced it will release its fourth quarter and full year 2025 financial results after market close on Thursday, February 5, 2026, and will not host an earnings conference call due to its pending combination with Coursera. The transaction remains subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Investors can access the press release on Udemy’s Investor Relations website under the ‘Quarterly Results’ section. The update highlights Udemy’s commitment to transparency during its strategic merger process and sets expectations for how the combined enterprise will drive future growth in global workforce upskilling.
