Energy Fuels Joins $8.5 B U.S. Push to Break China’s Rare Earth Supply Chain

UUUUUUUU

Energy Fuels Inc. is among a small group of North American firms, including REalloys and MP Materials, targeting China’s downstream rare earth processing stronghold in U.S. defense supply chains. With a planned $8.5 billion U.S. government investment, only REalloys currently has operational conversion capacity, leaving peers years away.

1. U.S. Government Injects $8.5 B for Rare Earth Conversion

The U.S. Department of Defense has allocated $8.5 billion to onshore rare earth processing, separation and conversion capacity to reduce reliance on China’s downstream capabilities. This funding targets the critical metallization and alloying steps required for defense-grade magnets, motors and advanced electronics.

2. Energy Fuels Among Select North American Processors

Energy Fuels Inc. is named alongside REalloys, MP Materials and Vale as part of a small consortium aiming to rebuild Western rare earth supply chains. While REalloys operates the only facility currently producing defense-grade metals and alloys, the other firms are still developing conversion systems that won’t be operational for several years.
