Eni Launches 440 mmscfd Sabratha Compression Module and Acquires 32% Vaca Muerta
E•Eni and Libya’s NOC have started hydrocarbon production from the Sabratha Compression Project by installing a 1,600-tonne module with 440 mmscfd capacity to counterfield decline and add 800 mcm of gas annually. Eni also agreed to acquire a 32% interest in Vaca Muerta blocks supporting 12 mtpa LNG plans.
1. Sabratha Compression Project Production Start
Eni and Libya’s National Oil Corporation have commenced hydrocarbon output from the Sabratha Compression Project under the Mellitah JV, marking the first use of the new 1,600-tonne compression module installed on the Sabratha platform.
2. Increased Gas Capacity and Export Support
The module, equipped with new compression trains, delivers approximately 440 million standard cubic feet per day, offsetting Bahr Essalam field decline and adding roughly 800 million cubic metres of gas annually to sustain Libya’s power generation and Greenstream exports to Italy.
3. Additional Offshore Development Workflows
Commissioning is ongoing for the Bouri Gas Utilization Project with its newly installed recovery module, while the Structures A&E initiative advances designs for two more offshore gas fields, reinforcing Eni’s long-term Libyan production strategy.
4. Expansion into Argentina’s Vaca Muerta Basin
Eni has struck a sale and purchase agreement to acquire a 32% stake in the Meseta Buena Esperanza, Aguada Villanueva and Las Tacanas blocks, joining YPF and XRG to underpin a 12 mtpa LNG development, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
