Eni Ventures Uncover 2.33 Tcf Gas and 70 MMboe in Egypt
E•Eni-operated ventures in Egypt discovered three fields totaling 2.33 trillion cubic feet of gas and 70 million barrels of oil equivalent, including the 2 Tcf Denise West offshore find and 330 Bcf South Bostan-1X onshore. All lie near existing infrastructure for fast-track development, but rising power demand may outstrip gains.
1. Major Eni-Led Discoveries in Egypt
In the past two months, Eni and BP joint ventures in Egypt announced three significant hydrocarbon discoveries. The offshore Denise West field holds 2 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, the Nile Delta’s Nidoco N-2 field is expected to produce 50 million cubic feet per day, and onshore South Bostan-1X contains 330 billion cubic feet of gas plus 10 million barrels of condensates and crude.
2. Infrastructure and Fast-Track Potential
All three sites are adjacent to Eni’s existing pipelines and processing facilities, reducing development lead times and capital requirements. This proximity allows for fast-track development plans and could lower project breakeven costs, facilitating earlier cash flows.
3. Production Outlook and Demand Dynamics
While these additions expand Eni’s resource base, Egypt’s domestic power consumption continues to grow and may still outpace new gas volumes. The discoveries will help reduce costly LNG imports and strengthen Egypt’s energy balance but are unlikely to fully meet surging demand.
