Equinor Finds 1.3–3.8 Million Barrel Oil Equivalent at North Sea Granat Prospect
Equinor and partners Petoro and OMV discovered between 200,000 and 600,000 scm of recoverable oil equivalent (1.3–3.8 million barrels) in the Granat prospect near the Gullfaks field in the North Sea. Licensees plan to tie the find into existing Gullfaks infrastructure pending evaluation.
1. Granat Prospect Discovery
Equinor, together with Petoro and OMV, drilled wildcat well 33/12-N-3 HH in production licence 277, targeting the Granat prospect about 190km northwest of Bergen. Preliminary estimates put recoverable volumes between 200,000 and 600,000 standard cubic metres of oil equivalent, equal to 1.3–3.8 million barrels.
2. Drilling Campaign Details
Wildcat well 33/12-N-3 HH encountered hydrocarbons across the Tarbert, Ness and Etive formations, yielding a 240m hydrocarbon column with gas in Tarbert and oil plus condensate in Ness and Etive. Its technical sidetrack reached measured depth of 7,846m and vertical depth of 3,715m. A companion well, 33/12-N-3 GH in licence 152, was dry.
3. Infrastructure Integration Plans
The licensees are evaluating tie-in options to leverage existing Gullfaks-area processing and export facilities, potentially accelerating development and reducing capex. Final investment decisions will depend on further appraisal and reservoir analysis.
