Equinor scales back Troll electrification plan, drops second compressor installation
EQNR•Equinor will complete the Troll West electrification project without installing a second electric export compressor at Troll C. The change is expected to cut annual CO₂ emissions by around 330,000 tonnes and release around 2.3 billion standard cubic meters of gas for Europe in 2027 and 2028.
1. Project changes
Equinor will complete the Troll West electrification project without installing the second electric export compressor planned for Troll C. Partial electrification is expected to cut annual CO₂ emissions by around 330,000 tonnes, about 75% of the original 440,000-tonne target.
2. Production and gas
Installing the second compressor would have reduced Troll C production for up to 21 months. Skipping the installation is expected to release around 2.3 billion standard cubic meters of additional gas for Europe in 2027 and 2028.
3. Operating timeline
Demand for the compressor is expected to cease in the mid-2030s, while Troll C operations are expected to continue until around 2050.
