Equinor’s subsidiary Rio Energy has finalized the purchase of the 230MW Esquina do Vento onshore wind farm in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from Vestas. The deal includes supply of 51 V163-4.5MW turbines and a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 service contract covering operation and maintenance.
2. Timeline and Output Expectations
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with turbine installation starting March 2027 and completion by year-end. Commercial operations are planned for 2028, with the facility projected to produce up to 1TWh of clean power each year, enough for approximately 520,000 residences.

This marks the first collaboration between Rio Energy and Vestas in Brazil and underscores Rio Energy’s commitment to the country’s renewable expansion.
