EU envoys approve new Russia sanctions listings, diplomats say
EUFN•EU envoys approved 1,646 new designations under the bloc’s Russia sanctions regime, with more than half involving Russia’s ballistic missile production chain. The EU also added seven North Korean entities and individuals linked to Moscow’s war effort.
1. Missile industry targeted
The new Russia designations focus largely on the military industrial complex. More than half target entities and individuals involved in producing ballistic missiles, including the 9M723 Iskander-M; the list also covers missile testing and research, solid fuels, rocket engines, specialised textiles and synthetic and carbon fibres.
2. Other listings and next steps
The designations also include drone manufacturers, submarine-serving shipyards and 77 Russian politicians who ran for parliamentary seats in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories. The sanctions will be formally adopted when EU foreign ministers meet on Monday. The EU separately added seven North Korean entities and individuals linked to Moscow’s war effort.
